El Silver Cabs “El Silver Cabs”

El Silver Cabs are a Brooklyn band, and much of their latest self-titled EP is classic Big Star/Lemonheads (the 90s Lemonheads) power-pop. The vocals bring in an element of that Texas-snarl garage twang we all love. Things get really interesting (as on the stand-out “Pretty Lady”) when ESC delves into Smashing Pumpkins-style grunged-out guitars. I guess this proves that the Pumpkins were always a power-pop band at heart. A perfect album for those September nights when you’re trying to ignore the end of summer.
