Heatmap - "Thank" EP

Listening to "Thank", the new EP from Philly's Heatmap, you could be persuaded you were back in Portland in the early 00’s. Not as proggy as Volta Do Mar, but definitely close to Erase Errata. They've got some of the moves of dancepunk, but a jerky paranoid dance under the CCTV lights.

Heatmap have managed to carve out a sound all their own. They’re not spastic like Death From Above, or even atmospheric like Bloc Party. This is 2004 distilled to its purest essence, all taunt rhythmic turns and muttered lyrics.

This is music for a super sweaty DIY basement show, where they go on just after midnight, and someone suddenly flicks off the light switch. The kind of show where your girlfriend broke up with you a month ago, but you're finally starting to live and celebrate life again. I guess I let on too much there.

Standout Track: "Afterlife"

Don't miss Heatmap  when they take the stage at St. Vitus, on Fri 9/20!
